EU Lawmakers Pass Landmark S. Korea FTA

Law360, New York (February 17, 2011, 11:48 AM EST) -- European lawmakers signed off on the European Union's free trade agreement with South Korea Thursday, paving the way for the two governments to eliminate almost all of their import duties on each other's industrial and agricultural products within five years.

The European Parliament voted to approve the trade deal by a 337-vote margin after receiving assurances from the Korean government that its new law to limit automobile emissions wouldn't throw up a new barrier to vehicle imports. Legislators also passed a separate safeguard measure on Thursday...
