Judge Issues Temporary Block Of Refiners' Merger

Law360, New York (April 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge on Friday put a temporary restraining order on a proposed $1.4 billion merger between two oil refineries in response to a Federal Trade Commission complaint alleging the deal would reduce New Mexico’s light petroleum supply and impede a future drop in prices.

Judge James Browning of the U.S. District Court of New Mexico said Friday that while he was concerned that the FTC’s market definition may be inaccurate, it provided enough evidence that the merger between Western Refining Inc. and Giant Industries Inc....
