'The Help' Author Stole Likeness, Miss. Woman Says

Law360, New York (February 18, 2011, 6:53 PM EST) -- A Mississippi woman has accused Kathryn Stockett, author of “The Help,” of basing one of the maid characters in the best-selling novel on her and depicting her in an offensive light.

Ablene Cooper filed a complaint Feb. 9 in the Circuit Court of the First Judicial District of Hinds County, Mississippi, claiming the author intentionally misappropriated her likeness and portrayed her in a false light.
