Fen-Phen Atty Should Be Disbarred, Report Says

Law360, New York (February 23, 2011, 10:06 PM EST) -- A Kentucky trial commissioner recommended Tuesday that Cincinnati-based class action lawyer Stanley M. Chesley be disbarred and required to give up $7.6 million in attorneys' fees from a settlement related to fen-phen diet drug litigation against American Home Products Corp.

Calling Chesley's actions a criminal enterprise, Trial Commissioner William L. Graham found that Chesley had violated nine ethical rules when he charged attorneys' fees that amounted to half of a $200 million settlement negotiated for 431 people allegedly hurt by the fen-phen.
