USDA Rolls Out Catfish Inspection Rule

Law360, New York (February 23, 2011, 6:16 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday said it was seeking public comment on a proposed rule that would require the agency to inspect domestic and imported catfish, a move aimed at implementing an inspection regime Congress outlined three years ago.

The USDA said the new rule would set in motion provisions of the 2008 Food, Conservation and Energy Act — also called the Farm Bill — compelling the agency’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to assess all catfish and catfish products before sale.
