E.C. To Fine Brewing Giants For Beer Cartel: Report

Law360, New York (April 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Europe’s competition watchdog is reportedly set to levy fines on several brewers on Wednesday over their alleged participation in an illegal beer cartel in the Netherlands.

The European Commission will determine on Wednesday the amount of the fine, which will be imposed on a group of brewers including Heineken, Interbrew (now InBev), Royal Grolsch and Bavaria, Agence France Presse reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The companies allegedly shared sensitive information about prices and kept prices artificially high between 1994 and 1999, AFP said....
