Deepwater Spill Won't Stir Drilling Insurance Policies

Law360, New York (March 24, 2011, 7:15 PM EDT) -- Deepwater drillers in the Gulf of Mexico will likely face only minor pricing and coverage changes to their insurance policies as a result of the Deepwater Horizon accident despite the massive number of claims and lawsuits arising from the oil spill, experts say.

In the short-term, deepwater drillers are going to pay more for insurance that covers the costs of plugging a well and cleaning up ensuing spillage. They are also, in many instances, asking their brokers to price out additional layers of insurance, according to...
