Calif. To Probe PG&E Records Over Fatal Gas Blast

Law360, New York (February 25, 2011, 4:34 PM EST) -- The California Public Utilities Commission is investigating Pacific Gas & Electric Co.'s gas transmission records to determine whether it should face penalties after a natural gas pipeline explosion killed eight people and destroyed nearly 40 homes.

The regulator said Thursday that its penalty consideration phase would tackle whether PG&E's record keeping for gas transmission pipelines was unsafe or unlawful and whether any deficient record keeping practices contributed to the explosion in San Bruno, Calif., on Sept. 9.
