Judge In Gay Marriage Suit Wants More Detail On DOMA

Law360, New York (February 25, 2011, 7:55 PM EST) -- A California federal judge overseeing a lawsuit over gay marriage benefits for a federal employee said Wednesday he wanted clarification regarding the U.S. Department of Justice's announcement that it would stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act.

Judge Jeffrey S. White of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California asked the government if it would reassess its position that federal staff attorney Karen Golinski cannot receive health benefits for her wife in light of the DOJ's announcement.
