9th Circ. Overturns Order To Destroy Monsanto Beets

Law360 (February 25, 2011, 9:20 PM EST) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday reversed a decision ordering the destruction of a crop of Monsanto Co.'s genetically modified sugar beets, saying that the beets were not likely to contaminate other farmers' fields.

Since the farmers growing the modified beets are going to harvest them before they are capable of reproducing, the risk to the environment is negligible, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled.
