Texas AG Nails Gulf Chemical With Pollution Charges

Law360, New York (March 1, 2011, 8:02 PM EST) -- Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott hit Gulf Chemical & Metallurgical Corp. on Tuesday with a lawsuit alleging 77 violations of Texas environmental protection laws for the company's failure to operate and maintain pollution control equipment at an industrial manufacturing facility.

The suit, filed Monday in Texas state court, said that the company had pled guilty to 11 previous felony pollution charges in May 2010 and paid more than $3 million in criminal fines and civil penalties, but still refused to implement proper pollution controls and safety...
