Hitachi Issues Objection To Switchgear Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (April 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Smacked with a €51.8 million fine, Japan's Hitachi Ltd. has decided to appeal the massive penalty handed down by the European Commission stemming from its alleged involvement in an electricity-transmission technology cartel.

On Wednesday, Hitachi revealed that it had filed an appeal with the European Court of First Instance, just days before the April 19 deadline to submit claims.

The news comes only a few weeks after Mitsubishi Electric also signaled its intention to challenge the ruling and the €118 million penalty it currently faces....
