Idaho County Files For Ch. 9 To Dodge $4M Verdict

Law360, New York (March 2, 2011, 6:45 PM EST) -- Boise County, Idaho, took the unusual step Tuesday of filing for municipal bankruptcy protection in an effort to avoid a $4 million legal judgment leveled against it by a federal court.

The rural county, which does not encompass the state capital city that bears the same name, filed a Chapter 9 bankruptcy petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Idaho, listing assets of under $50,000 and liabilities of up to $10 million.
