Trendsetting: NYC's Human Rights Law

Law360 (March 16, 2011, 12:35 PM EDT) -- In a series of recent decisions, the New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL) has been interpreted to provide greater rights and protections to employees living and working in New York City than its federal and state counterparts. Courts have relied primarily on the plain language of the statute and its legislative history in finding that claims under the city law should be evaluated separately from, and more liberally than, those under federal and state law.
