Feds Seek Discovery Stay In Massey Securities Action

Law360, New York (March 3, 2011, 4:43 PM EST) -- The federal government asked a West Virginia court on Thursday to stay all discovery in a proposed securities class action against Massey Energy Co. until the completion of related criminal proceedings.

The suit's plaintiffs, who recently asked for a partial lifting of an existing discovery stay, are seeking documents related to an April 5 explosion at the Upper Big Branch mine that killed 29 coal miners, federal prosecutors said in a motion to intervene filed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West...
