Va. Assembly Passes E-Verify Contractor Law

Law360, New York (March 4, 2011, 1:23 PM EST) -- The Virginia General Assembly sent a bill to the governor Thursday mandating that employers entering into state contracts of more than $50,000 that have more than 50 employees use E-Verify to check their U.S. work eligibility.

The Public Procurement Act; verification of legal presence, or HB 1859, would bar any employer who did not comply with the new E-Verify requirement from contracting with a state agency for up to a year.
