EPA Slaps Calif. Landfill Operator With CAA Suit

Law360, New York (March 4, 2011, 8:00 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday launched a suit against Republic Services Inc. unit Forward Inc., accusing it of violating the Clean Air Act in its operation of a Manteca, Calif., landfill.

The complaint — filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California by the U.S. attorney at the request of the EPA and a California air pollution regulatory agency — claims Forward allowed the landfill's gas collection control system to operate at oxygen concentration levels that exceeded the limit allowable under its Title V permit....
