Liberty Seeks To Avoid Covering $22M Asbestos Suit

Law360, New York (March 7, 2011, 6:38 PM EST) -- A Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. affiliate alleged Friday in a Wisconsin federal court that it does not have to defend a railroad maintenance equipment manufacturer from a $22 million asbestos suit brought by a railroad worker in New York.

Liberty Surplus Insurance Corp. said that the insurance policies it had with Racine Railroad Products Inc. contained exclusions for asbestos and pollutant claims, as well as claims for injuries that occurred before the policy kicked in, according to a complaint filed Friday by Michael T.
