Expedia, Others Face Italian Antitrust Fines

Law360, New York (March 7, 2011, 6:03 PM EST) -- Italy's antitrust watchdog fined Expedia Inc., Opodo Ltd. and fellow online travel site eDreams €415,000 ($580,000) on Monday for a variety of unfair trade practices.

The Autorita Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato said that the penalties stemmed from three separate investigations into conduct ranging from failing to provide enough information to consumers about products to mismanaging the booking and payment process.

The regulator fined Expedia and its Italian unit a total of €255,000, Barcelona-based eDreams €135,0000 and Opodo €25,000.
