Court Upholds NRC Permits For Entergy Nuclear Plant

By Abigail Rubenstein (March 7, 2011, 8:09 PM EST) -- A federal judge in New York on Friday handed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission summary judgment in a lawsuit accusing the agency of letting Entergy Corp. dodge necessary fire protections at its Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Judge Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled the NRC had not illegally granted Entergy an exemption from insulation standards put in place to safeguard against a catastrophic fire at the Westchester, N.Y., facility.
