200 NY Attorneys Back Cuomo's Malpractice Overhaul

Law360, New York (March 8, 2011, 3:40 PM EST) -- More than 200 New York attorneys signed onto a letter released Monday countering the New York State Bar Association's strong opposition to a plan from Gov. Andrew Cuomo to overhaul the state's medical malpractice laws.

The proposal — one among dozens put forward by Cuomo's Medicaid Redesign Team in February to help overhaul the beleaguered state fund — would cap non-economic medical malpractice damages at $250,000 and create a medical indemnity fund for neurologically impaired infants.
