Tort Reform Bill Sparks Debate In House Panel

Law360, New York (March 11, 2011, 2:48 PM EST) -- Proponents of a bill aimed at reducing frivolous lawsuits by requiring mandatory sanctions for filing them argued Friday that it will alleviate a heavy burden on small businesses and will crack down on "unscrupulous attorneys out to make a quick buck."

Opponents of the measure, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act, told the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on the constitution that the proposal will actually lead to more litigation costs, abuses and delays.
