Obama Taps Commerce's Locke For China Ambassador

Law360, New York (March 9, 2011, 5:28 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama selected U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke to become the new ambassador to China on Wednesday, in a move that garnered quick praise from legislative and business leaders.

If confirmed by the Senate, Locke would replace current ambassador Jon Huntsman, who is stepping down in April amid rumors that he may seek to become the Republican nominee for president in 2012.

Wednesday's announcement also prompted speculation about who would take over the vacancy at the Commerce Department.
