Wis. Senate Passes Union Limits Despite Absent Dems

Law360, New York (March 9, 2011, 10:53 PM EST) -- Republican Wisconsin state senators reportedly passed a bill restricting collective bargaining rights for public workers late Wednesday despite a walkout by their Democratic colleagues.

A senate committee removed the fiscal parts from the budget repair bill to allow the senators present to pass it with a simple majority present, according to a report from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The modified bill passed 18 to 1 within minutes after no debate, according to the Journal-Sentinel.
