U.S. Unveils Initiative To Crack Down On Global Piracy

Law360 (October 5, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Bush administration has launched a cross-departmental initiative to curb the global piracy and counterfeiting of U.S. goods and services, government officials said.

The initiative is aimed at dismantling counterfeiting activities through more criminal prosecutions and greater cooperation between government agencies, senior U.S. government officials said at a press conference.

The effort, dubbed “the Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy” (STOP), was announced at a press conference by Attorney General John Ashcroft, Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, Homeland Security Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick....
