5th Circ. Nixes Latest Stanford Bond Appeal

Law360, New York (March 14, 2011, 7:39 PM EDT) -- The Fifth Circuit rejected accused fraudster Robert Allen Stanford's bid to be released on bond pending trial Monday, ruling that it did not have the right to review the question of whether his right to a speedy trial had been violated.

In a brief per curiam opinion, a three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the Stanford's appeal.

Under Fifth Circuit precedent, it is "well established and undisputed" that an appellate court cannot review...
