U.K. Antitrust Regulator Closes Case Against LME

Law360, New York (April 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.K.’s Office of Fair Trading has ended an antitrust investigation into the London Metal Exchange, saying the case was no longer a priority for the competition watchdog.

The world’s largest metal market, which was banned by the OFT from extending the opening hours of its exchange following complaints by a competitor four years ago, said the decision was welcome but overdue.

Spectron Group Plc, which operates a rival electronic system, had claimed LME’s plan to extend its hours to cover those of the Asian trading...
