Insurers Settle Smithfield Fire Claims For $208M

Law360, New York (March 16, 2011, 7:27 PM EDT) -- Smithfield Foods Inc. revealed in a regulatory filing Friday that it had reached an agreement with its insurance carriers to settle a claim stemming from a 2009 fire at a meatpacking plant in Cudahy, Wis., for $208 million.

The company disclosed the December 2010 settlement in a quarterly report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing did not identify the insurance carriers involved in the settlement.
