Alleged Ponzi Schemer Ducks Murder Plot Charges

Law360, New York (March 17, 2011, 10:40 PM EDT) -- A Utah man accused of running an $18 million Ponzi scheme pled guilty Thursday to wire fraud, accepting a 10-year jail sentence in exchange for the federal government dropping charges that he tried to have four witnesses killed.

Jeffrey Lane Mowen, who allegedly bilked investors through sham foreign currency trading and real estate investments, entered a plea change Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, 15 months after he initially pled not guilty to each of six counts in a superseding indictment....
