Congress To Probe Payoff Claims Against DC Mayor

Law360, New York (March 17, 2011, 7:39 PM EDT) -- Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said Thursday that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee would investigate allegations that Washington Mayor Vincent Gray paid off a rival candidate to disparage incumbent Adrian M. Fenty during the 2010 campaign.

Issa said he was "deeply concerned" by the allegations made by former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown, who has said that Gray promised him a job and made cash payments in exchange for making sometimes-wild political attacks on Fenty during the campaign.
