FDA Panel Pushes Menthol Cigarette Ban

Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 1:33 PM EDT) -- A panel in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday that a ban on menthol cigarettes would benefit public health, even though the products pose no greater health risks than nonmenthol cigarettes.

The FDA’s Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee recommended in a draft report to the agency that “removal of menthol cigarettes from the marketplace would benefit public health in the United States.”
