Bill To Split Fla. High Court In Two Moves Forward

Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 6:48 PM EDT) -- A Florida House of Representatives subcommittee passed a bill Thursday that would add three justices to the state’s seven-member Supreme Court and split it into separate five-member civil and criminal divisions.

The House Civil Justice Committee also approved other court reforms Thursday, including a bill that would end the Florida Bar’s role in selecting state Supreme Court justices.

Republican sponsors of the bills hope to package them as a single amendment to the state constitution.
