Sierra Club Takes Aim At 3 Luminant Coal-Fired Plants

Law360, New York (March 21, 2011, 5:36 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club issued a report Thursday calling for the closure of three Luminant coal-fired power plants that are allegedly the largest emitters of pollution in north Texas.

In the report, the Sierra Club said Luminant's Big Brown, Monticello and Martin Lake plants — which account for 5,280 megawatts of electricity near Dallas — are financially mismanaged, cannot compete profitably in the current market, require pollution control upgrades that are unaffordable and have suffered deep losses in market value.
