Court Rescues MillerCoors Distribution Contracts

Law360, New York (March 23, 2011, 4:21 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in Ohio gave a big boost to beer wholesalers in the state Tuesday, ruling that Miller Brewing Co. and Coors Brewing Co., which banded together to form a joint venture in 2008, could not terminate their distributor franchises.

Judge Michael H. Watson of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio concluded that the MillerCoors LLC joint venture does not qualify as a successor manufacturer under the Ohio Alcoholic Beverages Franchises Act and is therefore barred from unilaterally ending the distribution...
