EU To Appeal WTO Ruling On Chinese Steel Fasteners

Law360, New York (March 25, 2011, 5:45 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization announced Friday that the European Union would appeal a ruling that took it to task for anti-dumping practices targeting Chinese metal fasteners, screws and bolts.

In December, the WTO said the EU's anti-dumping rules discriminated against Chinese exporters and set blanket duties as high as 85 percent in a way that violated international trade agreements.

An appeal of the WTO panel's ruling must be based on legal interpretation, rather than reopening factual findings, and the appeals process usually takes about three months,...
