Improper Payments Found In DOE Geothermal Awards

Law360, New York (March 29, 2011, 2:23 PM EDT) -- An audit released Monday by the U.S. Department of Energy's inspector general found $110,000 in improper payments and a rash of federal wage rate violations in geothermal projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Although the department followed established procedures in soliciting, reviewing, selecting and awarding the project agreements, the DOE has not found a fully effective system to monitor ARRA geothermal awards since the stimulus bill was enacted in 2009, according to the DOE inspector general's report.
