Farmers Launch Assault On Monsanto Seed Patents

Law360, New York (March 29, 2011, 10:40 PM EDT) -- Scores of farmers, seed businesses and agricultural organizations asked a New York federal court Tuesday to invalidate more than 20 Monsanto Co. patents covering genetically modified seed, claiming the company misused the patents to dominate the seed market.

The Public Patent Foundation launched the suit on behalf of 60 farmers, seed businesses and agricultural groups comprising more than 270,000 members against Monsanto and Monsanto Technology LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
