US Joins Rural/Metro Ambulance Services FCA Suit

Law360, New York (March 31, 2011, 7:21 PM EDT) -- The U.S. on Thursday slapped medical transport provider Rural/Metro Corp. and others with an intervenor complaint in a whistleblower suit in Alabama accusing the companies of bilking the government for ambulance services that were medically unnecessary or never provided.

In a filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the U.S. contends that, since 2003, the companies have created or submitted documentation falsely stating that certain dialysis patients were either bed-confined or that ambulance transportation was medically required.
