Texas Senate Panel OKs Low-Level Nuclear Waste Bills

Law360, New York (April 6, 2011, 6:26 PM EDT) -- Two bills intended to improve the oversight of low-level nuclear waste imported into Texas made their way through a state Senate committee Tuesday, clearing the way for a vote by the full Senate.

Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo, who authored the bills, said at a hearing Tuesday that the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission, which in January approved a plan to import low-level nuclear waste from other states, had been "operating on a catch as catch can basis" and needed better oversight and resources....
