US, Tribes Sue Shipyards Over Wash. Superfund Site

Law360 (April 7, 2011, 4:12 PM EDT) -- The U.S., Washington state and two American Indian tribes sued two shipyards Wednesday for alleged damage to natural resources at the contaminated Commencement Bay-Nearshore Tideflats Superfund site in Tacoma, Wash.

Foss Maritime Company and Maritime Industries Northwest Inc. released oil and other hazardous chemicals into Commencement Bay and the waterway that opens into it, damaging or destroying natural resources including fish, shellfish, birds and marine sediment, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
