Judge Denies Stay Of Injunction In Chevron Suit

Law360, New York (April 6, 2011, 9:35 PM EDT) -- A federal judge in New York refused Wednesday to stay a preliminary injunction that halts enforcement of an Ecuadorean court's $8.6 billion judgment against Chevron Corp. for alleged pollution and contamination in the Amazon rain forest.

In an order filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan said that the "balance of the equities strongly favors Chevron" in the case and that there was no compelling reason to stay the preliminary injunction.
