DOJ Fights To Keep $19M Fine In Sewer Bribery Case

Law360, New York (April 7, 2011, 9:23 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday told the Eleventh Circuit it supported a judge's decision to slash Roland Pugh Construction Inc.'s criminal fine from $61.6 million to $19.4 million over bribery charges regarding a $3 billion Alabama sewer project.

The DOJ said an Alabama federal judge had properly considered Pugh's financial circumstances when he reduced the fine, according to a brief filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and that it should not be lowered further.
