Ex-NY Sen. Tells 2nd Circ. Guilty Plea Was Coerced

Law360, New York (April 11, 2011, 1:35 PM EDT) -- An attorney for former New York state Sen. Efrain Gonzalez Jr. told the Second Circuit on Monday that a lower court along with Gonzalez's former attorney twisted his arm into pleading guilty to corruption charges.

The imminence of trial, the coercion of his own attorney and the pressure from the judge himself drove Gonzalez into pleading guilty, Gonzalez's attorney, Lance Croffoot-Suede of Linklaters LLP, told a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
