Dr. Comfort, Founder To Pay $27M For Medicare Fraud

Law360, New York (April 11, 2011, 7:41 PM EDT) -- Prosecutors in Wisconsin announced Monday that recently bought-out therapeutic footwear company Dr. Comfort Footwear and its former CEO will pay $27 million to resolve Medicare fraud accusations initially brought by former employees.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin James L. Santelle announced the civil settlement with the company and founder Rickey L. Kanter along with the filing of a criminal information and plea agreement on allegations that Kanter falsely marketed and sold diabetic shoe inserts as conforming to applicable Medicare requirements.
