Gibson Dunn Fights EnCana Suit Sanctions In 9th Circ.

By Erin Marie Daly (April 14, 2011, 3:37 PM EDT) -- Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP urged the Ninth Circuit on Thursday to knock out a lower court's sanctions against the firm stemming from alleged witness tampering in an antitrust suit accusing EnCana Corp. of conspiring to drive up the price of natural gas.

The firm, which is seeking to reverse an order by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California imposing a $102,078.97 sanction against it, faced an uphill battle in oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where a three-judge panel accused the firm of being overly argumentative.
