Daimler Sued Over Alleged Steering System Defects

Law360, New York (April 12, 2011, 3:10 PM EDT) -- A Daimler AG unit was hit with a class action Tuesday in Alabama alleging it sold thousands of Freightliner heavy duty trucks with defective rack-and-pinion steering systems.

The suit, lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, said Daimler Trucks North America LLC issued voluntary recalls of its rack-and-pinion steering systems and eventually changed their design.

However, approximately 9,000 defective vehicles continue to be operated at the present, according to the suit, which requests punitive damages, disgorgement and attorneys' fees.
