Funeral Co. SCI Buries Wage-And-Hour Class Action

Law360, New York (April 12, 2011, 5:36 PM EDT) -- A Virginia federal judge on Tuesday tossed a putative class action accusing funeral services provider Service Corp. International of breaching contracts with employees by failing to properly compensate them for all hours worked.

Judge Jackson L. Kiser of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia dismissed the putative employee class action against SCI with prejudice, ruling that the suit was preempted by federal law and duplicative of a case pending in Arizona.
