Airline Faces Patent Suit Over Tracking Technology

Law360, New York (May 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- United Airlines has been hit with a patent infringement suit filed by a Caribbean company and its licensee over the airline’s flight notification system.

Melvino Technologies Ltd. and its licensee ArrivalStar SA filed their suit Tuesday against United’s parent company, UAL Corp., in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The patent holders claim UAL’s “Easyupdate Flight Notification” system infringes two patents.

The patents in question are U.S. Patent Number 6,748,318, entitled “advanced notification systems and methods utilizing a computer network,” and U.S....
