GAO Says US Improperly Paid Out $125B In 2010

Law360 (April 15, 2011, 2:01 PM EDT) -- More than 70 programs at 20 federal agencies handed out $125.4 billion in improper payments during the last fiscal year, despite legislative efforts to improve transparency and reduce payment mistakes, according to a report released Friday.

The sum of improper payments has grown since fiscal year 2009, the U.S. Government Accountability Office found, increasing $16.2 billion from $109.2 billion to $125.4 billion in FY 2010.
