EU Vows To Protect Internet Competition

Law360, New York (April 19, 2011, 1:36 PM EDT) -- The European Union vowed Tuesday to keep a close eye on Internet service providers as new telecommunications rules take effect, and to use the bloc's antitrust rules to police Net neutrality if necessary.

With the EU's new legislative package set to go into force in late May, the European Commission said it had asked the bloc's telecommunications watchdog to monitor the industry's progress implementing the measures, Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes said Tuesday.
